Fed: Swan says tax system needs to become less complex

Federal Treasurer WAYNE SWAN says more than 70 per cent of Australians use a tax agent
to prepare their tax returns .. a sure sign the system's too complex.

He says the long-awaited Henry tax review to be released next Sunday will aim to make
the tax system fairer and simpler .. for a modern economy.

Speaking from Washington .. Mr SWAN's told Sky News we need to have a mature discussion about it.

He says much of what's been written about a proposed federal resources rent tax on
mining industry is inaccurate .. and he's urged everyone to wait for the full report.
