Fed:Laws allow others to tolerate human rights abuse:Democrats

The Australian Democrats say new laws forcing asylum seekers who land on the Australian
mainland to be processed offshore .. would encourage other nations to tolerate human rights
abuses.

Democrats Senator .. ANDREW BARTLETT .. says the new laws encourage other countries
.. such as Indonesia .. in the region to tolerate human rights abuses.

Media reports say Cabinet's national security committee has decided to move asylum
seekers offshore before their claims are processed.

But Senator BARTLETT says the government's learnt nothing from recent investigations
into its immigration policies .. and has decided to appease Indonesia instead of protecting
human rights.
