NSW: Oldest male Asian elephant dies at Western Plains Zoo

Staff at the Western Plains Zoo in New South Wales are mourning the death of their
only male elephant .. the oldest Asian bull in Australasia.

The elephant .. known as Heman .. was found dead by his keepers at the zoo in Dubbo this morning.

Heman is believed to be just over 50 .. but his precise date of birth isn't known because
of poor record keeping in the 50s and 60s.

A post-mortem examination is being conducted to work out the cause of Heman's death.
