NSW: Hundreds of jobs to be created by halal export project
A business expert says hundreds of jobs could be created by a new export project totap into a $50 billion a year market catering for Asia's 600 million Muslims.
The CEO of Australian Business Limited RIDHWAN IBRAHIM-BENNETT says the halal foodindustry export development project will help manufacturers of food and related productsget Halal certification and identify export opportunities.
He says the project -- to begin in NSW -- will create more jobs and help Australianbusinesses get a larger share of the halal market catering for 600 million Muslims inAustralia and Asia.
Mr IBRAHIM-BENNETT says food manufacturers, toiletry and cosmetics, and pharmaceuticalcompanies can become Halal certified.
To get halal certification, factories must be free of prohibited animals; productscannot contain pork, pork products and alcohol; and animals have to be stunned and thenslaughtered in a humane manner.
