Qld: Liberal loser wants quick decision on Ryan preselection

Defeated Liberal candidate BOB TUCKER has criticised the party's Queensland executive
saying they ignored Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD and delayed a decision on a preselection
in the federal seat of Ryan.

Mr TUCKER says the Liberals were at risk of facing months of speculation as a federal
poll loomed after the state executive put the preselection issue on hold at a marathon
meeting in Brisbane last night.

The 43-member state executive voted to delay a decision on the preselection until May
at the six-hour meeting despite a push from the local electorate council on Thursday night
to resolve the issue.

Mr TUCKER lost the once blue-ribbon Liberal seat in Brisbane's west on preferences
to Labor's LEONIE SHORT last month, ending a 52-year reign by the party still suffering
from losses at the February state election.
